Justice League #21 // Review
Jorge Jimenez continues to supplant himself into DC comics history with his splendid pencils while Scott Snyder has his work cut out for him trying to pitch anything Jimenez doesn’t hit entirely out of the park. With the series looking and feeling better than it has in quite a few years, Snyder and Jimenez prove to be the perfect duo for the title. DC’s flagship title continues to blow the competition out of the water.
As Starman, Mera and Cyborg are left to deal with Mr. Mxyzptlk on Earth-0 as he attempts to undo reality, the rest of the league still remain within the sixth dimension, while Superman has been trapped inside a sunless pocket dimension by his “future” counterpart. In true Batman fashion, the Dark Knight knows something is not right as the true identity of this older Superman is forced to reveal himself. Taking a turn for the worse, the team end up on a scorched Apokolips as the chapter closes with a jaw-dropping final page.
The fantastical imagery of Jorge Jimenez has never looked better, with every new issue his craft is sharpened even more. From the battle between two Supermen to Mxy unimagining reality, Jimenez is able to take these concepts and ultimately turn the dial to eleven. Snyder brings the grand ideas to the table while Jimenez completely brings them to life with easily the most fun and exciting arc this run has seen thus far. Alejandro Sanchez continues to bring that vibrant pop Jimenez’s art has come to be known for in spectacular color works for these fan favorites.
Always accompanied by a slew of amazing artists, Scott Snyder proceeds to deliver his best works and putting his collaborators through the wringer. His huge ideas from Metal and No Justice prove to pay off tenfold with this new arc, bringing in old continuity with his original ideas and creating all new corners of the DCU. As even more revelations and weight are brought to the table with each new issue, Snyder loses no steam with the bi-weekly schedule and continues producing one of the best runs on the title thus far.
Time and time again, this series proves to stand head and shoulders above the competition, in-house and otherwise. Scott Snyder and Jorge Jimenez bring the heat to the pages and title as a whole leaving fans chomping at the bit for more. Justice League is the premiere team book on the market and perpetually elevates further with every chapter.
