Cemetery Beach #6 // Review
While Mike and Grace’s journey is rapidly heading towards its end their fate is still a mystery. Will they be able to fulfill Mike’s mission or will they die at the hands of President Barrow? Cemetery Beach #6 is written by Warren Ellis, the art is done by Jason Howard, and the lettering is by Fonografiks.
Mantle; the last perimeter surrounding the settlement. Having lost the soldiers who were following them, Mike and Grace face haven’t put all of the danger behind them just yet. Mantle is the last perimeter of the settlement and has its own set of dangers to survive. The cold temperatures and ruthless guards are another obstacle to overcome, and if they can survive that, there’s still a lot of ground to cover before they reach Cemetery Beach. Not only that, but Mike has finally seen first hand some of the true horrors taking place.
Throughout the series Ellis has been weaving in details about what’s really going on in the colony and they’re all starting to come together to give the full story. The pacing has been well done thus far; things weren’t revealed too soon but neither has the plot been dragged on. Ellis does a wonderful job of making the reader feel like they are part of the adventure by giving them no knowledge the characters themselves don’t have. The development that Mike and Grace have had in such a short time is another positive for the story. While not much time has actually passed they have both come a long way, acting significantly longer than they did back in issue 1.
Howard’s art continues to be stunning. The colors are always well suited to the mood of each scene they accompany. There’s no wooden posing to be found here. The characters leap around, run, and fight with their entire bodies. It's easy to imagine the scenes moving as though they were in a movie.
The next issue is going to be the last and it should be a wild ride. A showdown between Mike, Grace, and President Barrow would make for a thrilling conclusion by wrapping up loose ends and also providing an epic final battle. Whatever happens in the final issue it will hopefully live up to the expectations the previous issues have created for it.
