The damage has been done, Darkseid's Will has spread over Earth while the planet crumbles around what heroes are left. The reign of terror Tom Taylor and Trevor Hairsine have laid across the universe holds no bounds, as all hope seems fleeting in droves with each new issue. This Elseworlds horror story continues to defy expectations and leave readers guessing as the weight of the series continues to tip the scales. With only two installments left, already it seems as though that all is truly lost.
Returning back to the previously established snapshots across the Earth, readers watch as the fate of each of these characters mostly lies in death. No one is safe. With one compromised hero after another, forces continue to deplete while Superman plans for the remaining heroes and villains to join forces and meet within the center of Metropolis. Meanwhile, Captain Atom finds himself as the puppet of a compromised shrunken Atom within his body. The chapter closes out in explosively jaw-dropping ending.
The pencil work of Trevor Hairsine continues to fit the series perfectly, accentuating the title and drive home the sheer dread and hopeless this universe is under. Colorist Rain Beredo delivers his best work in adding to the over imposing threat to Hairsie's pencil work and helping to bring this nightmare to life. Taylor drives the ideas, but the creatives behind the art truly make this series a sight to behold with its beautiful horror.
Tom Taylor's brand of shock and awe continues to blow readers away each month with every new revelation and gruesome death. Whether Bruce Wayne Batman or Hal Jordan Green Lantern, Taylor loves to defy reader expectations. He delivers stories with real weight creating the feeling that anything can and will happen. Although playing fast and loose with some characterizations, Taylor continues to provide an exciting and gut-wrenching series in the same vein as his time on Injustice previously.
Ending with an explosive turn of events, the survival of the world continues to fall out of reach for these heroes as this final blowout might just be their last. Taylor and Hairsine continue to work exceptionally well and accenting each other's strong suits and creating something truly more significant than the sum of its parts. Although two issues remain a handful of one-shots are yet to be released which will flesh out how far the damage has genuinely reached. After this unexpected ending, readers will be left to wonder the fate of their favorite heroes until next month.
