Flash Forward #1 // Review

Following the previous murder mystery mini-series, Scott Lobdell and Brett Booth deliver Wally West from the depths of hell, otherwise known as Heroes in Crisis. Proceeding the fan loathed series as mentioned earlier, the creative duo has the task of taking fan-favorite Flash to the edge of the Multiverse to redeem himself of his misdeeds. From a beautiful cover from Evan “Doc” Shaner to professed Wally West fanboy in Brett Booth, the love can truly be felt in this first issue as the creative team attempt to save Wally from the previous editorial nightmare.

Once Heroes in Crisis came to a close, fans were left to face the unfortunate truth is none other than Wally West had turned out to be the murderer all along. As this series begins, Wally still remains within the unwelcome halls of Blackgate Prison reeling from his crimes and what he had already lost previously. Surrounded by a plethora of villains, each with their own chip on their shoulder. Wally is left powerless to the whims of each rogue. Finally coming face to face with Tempest Fuginaut, last seen in the canceled series Sideways. Wally is faced with his ultimate destiny as he must now take on his mantle once again and save the entire Multiverse before it’s too late.

Brett Booth brings a welcomed familiarity 59 the series, having worked with Wally previous on Titans during the Rebirth era. His unmistakable pencil work retains all his own signature quirks and works well for a title following a speedster. The more elongated limbs add to the overall dynamics of his action sequences albeit more noticeable during the quieter moments of the issue. With many more worlds still to embark upon, Booth will be sure to bring the action and excitement to each one.

Scott Lobdell brings his strongest work to date for the publisher following his previous collaboration with Booth. Once again working on fan-favorite speedster Wally West, the two have their work cut out for them. As they must fix the previous uncharacteristic mistakes, he had made. While attempting to find some fort of way to add more context fans wait on pins and needles for the team to rescue Wally

As the quest through the Multiverse has only begun, Booth and Lobdell definitely have their work cut out for them. With the fan-favorite speedster’s name been tarnished by editorial mandates, the series is off to a promising start on this road to redemption. The fandom and love for Wally from Brett Booth alone is enough to give fans hope for what is still to come.
