Justice League #23 // Review

Continuing their trek within the Sixth Dimension, Scott Snyder and Jorge Jimenez take the heroes through a dystopian vision of the future while the present day continues to be unimagined out of reality. It cannot be stated enough the sheer artistry that Jorge Jimenez brings to the title and absolutely elevating the material. The duo another chapter to the best story arc of the current run thus far while building towards their own summer blockbuster within the title.

While Superman remains trapped within a Sunless picket dimension, the rest of the heroes find themselves trapped on a future Apokolips turned jail, ran by Lois Lane. Back on Earth-0, Mr. Mxyzptlk and Batmite continue their fight across Metropolis while the world around them crumbles apart. Batman decides to stay behind with the World Forger and learn more about his plans. Unbeknownst to the reader as to why but Batman decides to keep Superman trapped within the pocket dimension to carry out the Forger's mysterious plans. The heroes manage to escape their fiery prison with the help of some unlikely characters before the chapter closes out.

Jorge Jimenez will be a name that goes down in not only DC Comics history but in the medium as a whole. His sheer attention to detail, bringing a nearly animated aesthetic to any title he works on will cement him firmly into the mythos at large. With each new issue he works on, Jimenez dials up his work tenfold. From character designs to his fun Easter eggs, Jimenez has earned the spot as the quintessential artist for the title. Alejandro Sanchez makes each page absolutely pop with his beautiful color works, adding another layer of detail to Jimenez's intricate pencils.

Scott Snyder continues to bring his best work yet to the series with this current arc. As the build-up towards the showdown against Perpetua continues, this flagship title grows the titular team into new and exciting places. Whether through retcons or sheer imaginative concepts, Snyder outdoes himself with every new chapter. Even managing to squeeze in a flashback moment with fan favorite Jon Kent Superboy for Jimenez to draw once again, Snyder knows what fans and collaborators love.

Earth's Mightiest Heroes might dominate the box office, but the Justice League stand uncontested as the premiere team book currently on the market. This flagship title continues to blow any contemporary team book out of the water with the high art and imaginative ideas. Snyder and Jimenez are a breath of fresh air in the current comic landscape as they work together magnificently.
