Rocket #2 Review

I'm not reading enough Marvel books these days. So after reading and enjoying the first issue of Rocket (someone else beat me to the review though!) I decided I'd stick with the series and pick up #2. This was a good decision! I'm not a huge fan of the character, he's fine, don't get me wrong- but he just isn't Spider-man or Wolverine or anywhere near their league in terms of being a fan favourite. However, this book is really fun! And Rocket himself, is very cool in it!

Rocket narrates this story, which is kind of like a noir/Reservoir Dogs/sci-fi heist story. He is trying to do what he thinks is right but obviously things don't go as smoothly as he would like. To be fair, when you gather a rag tag group such as the Technet, you shouldn't expect anything else. They end up fighting and things get a bit nuts...

The fact that this is all set in space means that the character's involved can be of all shapes and sizes, all have varying alien abilities as well. Writer Al Ewing takes great advantage of his creative freedom by having zany alien character's with even zanier abilities. The battle is unlike any I have read before and it is highly entertaining! It is all wonderfully depicted by Adam Gorham on art. He nails it! There is a real fun energy to everything!

However, this issue is more than just a battle. It also deals with the aftermath from the (very fun) heist in #1 . Which means that Rocket... is on trial.

This book is brilliantly funny. Several pages are even dedicated to a hilarious parody of Daredevil's adventures in court! As I'm sure you're aware, it rarely goes well for Matt Murdock and it turns out that Murd Blurdock has similar tendencies...

I'm giving this issue an A! I've added the series to my pull as well so I can't wait to see what happens next! I would also recommend this to anyone who hasn't read very much Guardians of the Galaxy before. It is very accessible for new readers.
