GOD COUNTRY #5 REVIEW: WELCOME HOME

GOD COUNTRY #5 (of 6) has arrived, and it feels like it's come too soon. This is a special book that i don't want to see finish....but all good stories know when to end while still leaving you wanting more. In this issue, writer DONNY CATES does a masterful job of balancing the development of both the Hero and Villain....while also blurring the line a bit between which character is playing what role.

The GEOFF SHAW art is as amazing, as always. His ability to convey depth on the page makes you feel like you're looking at photos of vast, sprawling Texas landscapes, and it really adds to the vastness of some of the scenes. I fully recommend this comic to anyone and everyone. GOD COUNTRY is in heavy demand for a reason, it's of the best books coming out right now. Get ahold of it as quickly as you can!

NOW FOR THE GRADE:

• ART: A (SHAW really shines in this issue as it's sort of the first one with an epic fight scene, and the story continues to span multiple worlds and unique environments)

• STORY: A (to be the "calm before the storm" issue, #5 really packs in a lot of background and world building...we get ample character motivation from both sides of the conflict)

• DIALOGUE: A+ (As a born and raised Southerner i have a soft spot for good Southern dialogue and CATES being a Texan, he may as well be a professor in Southern American English)

• SIGNIFICANCE: B (As indie books go GOD COUNTRY is as on fire as it gets, but I'd like to see a little more awareness for it. I feel like at a concert GOD COUNTRY is one of those opening acts that go balls to the wall and shows up the headlining gigs....You can tell they're gonna be a force in the industry but they're not quite getting the dues they deserve yet...every issue should be on atleast a 5th print)

•EXTRA CREDIT: (shout out for yet another awesome SPAWN Variant Cover....posted below)

FINAL GRADE: A! ALL! DAY! NOW CAN YOU DIG THAT SUCKAAAA!
